FAQ for Tryouts:

My daughter is an eighth grader, what time should she arrive for tryouts?

Eighth graders should arrive at the clinics as soon as they can after school. Please do not leave school early.

What should be worn to tryout clinics?

Please wear a white t-shirt and black or blue cheer shorts. Soffe brand is best and can be found at sporting goods stores and sometimes at Kohls. They are very affordable and will be used throughout the season for practices. But, athletic shorts are fine. Also wear athletic shoes, and put hair up in a ponytail.

My child attends Centaurus, how do I know if my sports physical is current?

Even if you were on the team this previous season, I will need to have a copy of the physical. So, bring a copy of your physical to tryouts. Contact Sue Fischer in the athletic office if you cannot locate a copy.

Which days of clinics should my child attend?

If your child is new to cheerleading, then they need to attend all of the clinics except for the coed day on Monday. If your child has experience with cheerleading, they should come on Friday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. If your child is a boy, they should attend all dates, including Monday afternoon. At the Friday clinic, the coach will assign girls to attend the Monday coed clinic. (No beginner girls on Monday).

I need to miss one of the clinic dates, can I still try out?

Yes, the only mandatory day is Wednesday, May 1st. You will just need to learn the tryout material on your own. A video link can be provided starting on Friday.

Are there minimum tumbling requirements for the teams?

There are no specified minimum requirements for tumbling. Tumbling skills will help increase the tryout score, but they are not the only determining factor.

Will cheerleading interfere with my child's ability to participate in other sports at Centaurus?

The schedule for the varsity team is most rigorous in the fall and winter. Students are encouraged to participate in Spring sports, but it will be very difficult for a student to participate in both cheerleading and another fall or winter sport. Cheerleaders practice 4 times per week plus football games mostly on Fridays in the fall. In the winter, the team cheers for 2 basketball games per week, plus practices.
It may be possible for someone to participate in another sport if they are on the JV cheerleading squad and not on a competition squad.

Can I participate in All-Star Cheer as well as Centaurus Cheer?

Due to the time commitment required for the varsity team this can be very difficult, but we can look into each individual situation to see if it could work. Also, per CHSAA rules, the school's administration would need to approve each occurance.
