Camp Dates: June 25-28th at CSU in Ft Collins

  • Centaurus Cheer will include a Varsity and a JV team, each of which may be all-girl or coed. Varsity will have no more than 25 members, and JV will have no more than 16 members. (Based on natural break in tryout scores, not all varsity slots will necessarily be filled. JV will be chosen if there is sufficient interest at tryouts.)
  • Anyone, male or female, who will attend Centaurus High next school year, is eligible to tryout. This includes current eighth graders.
  • No experience is required for the JV team, and potentially the varsity squad as well.
  • There are no set minimum tumbling requirements for either squad. Tumbling skills will be judged and included in the tryout scores, but this is just one of many criteria used in selection of the teams. Typically, Varsity members will be expected to be able to perform a backhandspring at a minimum. Candidates will be judged on athleticism, stunting ability and position, motions, dance/rhythm, voice, maturity, work ethic, presence, jumps, flexibility, etc.
  • Cheerleaders are athletes. Participants must be prepared to work hard as a member of a team.
  • Cheerleading is a full year commitment. Cheerleading will need to be the first priority for anyone chosen for the squads. (The practice schedule is most rigorous in the fall and in the winter if the varsity team attends nationals in February.)
  • The teams will cheer for home and away football games and home and/or away basketball games. Other sports will be supported as time allows.
  • All practices are mandatory beginning August 15th. All assigned games and events are also mandatory. (Unexcused absences include work, doctor’s appointments, driving lessons and tests, test taking, etc. Time management skills are essential.)
  • Cheerleaders must maintain a good image for themselves, their team, and their school at all times, including on social media. DRINKING, SMOKING, ILLEGAL DRUG USE, AND PROFANITY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED FROM THE CHEERLEADERS!!
  • Cheerleaders must meet eligibility guidelines set by the Centaurus Administration. Academically ineligible athletes are required to attend practices, but are not permitted to dress in the uniform or perform with the team.
  • Practices will be held twice a week in the summer plus tumbling class and summer camp. Summer Break will be from July 1-July 18. Please try to schedule vacations at that time. Mandatory practices will begin in mid-August.
  • Mandatory fall practices will be held 3times/week at Centaurus. Varsity members will also need to attend a team tumbling practice at a local gym once/week. (Total 4 days/week plus games.)
  • Winter practice schedule will be determined by whether or not the team attends Nationals. If not, we will only practice once/week and attend basketball games twice/week.
  • Spring practices will begin April 30th, and will be held twice/week at Centaurus.
  • Cheerleading is an expensive sport. Fundraisers will be held throughout the year to help, but cheerleaders and their families will be held responsible for payment of all expenses. Once uniforms are ordered, they cannot be returned, so the cheerleader will be fully responsible for the payments due for their uniform and other items. Quitting the team does not release your financial responsibility, and a final payment will be due within one month of leaving the program.
  • Approximate cost: Limited used uniforms will be available for a discount. They are available as is and may need to be altered at your own expense. (These can be purchased directly from outgoing athletes.) New JV members (with all new equipment): $400 plus Camp and tumbling class.  New Varsity (with all new equipment): $800 plus Camp, tumbling class, and Nationals.  Returning Varsity: $300 plus Camp, tumbling class, and Nationals.  An initial uniform/clothing deposit of $250 will be due at the first parent meeting in April for all new members, and $150 for all returning cheerleaders.
  • The varsity team will attend UCA camp this summer at CSU in Fort Collins. This is an overnight 4 day camp, and the cost is approximately $420 per person. A non-refundable $55 deposit will be due at the first parent meeting in April, and the remainder will be due June 1. (Camp dates: June 21-24, 2016)
  • Tumbling class will cost approximately $65/month and will start in May. (This class will be optional for JV. Varsity members are expected to enroll. This fee is paid directly to North Metro Elite Gym.) Classes are 90 minutes.
  • The Varsity team is expecting to attend Nationals in February in Orlando. So, plan accordingly. The event is held February 11-12, 2017 and will cost approximately $1200 per athlete.
  • Competition team(s) will be determined during the season. JV may or may not compete this season depending on the makeup and skill level of the team. Not all members of either team will necessarily compete. This will be determined by the coaches based on the competition rules for the specific competition, as well as eligibility, injuries, absences, etc.
  • A current sports physical and a signed waiver of liability form will be required in order to attend the tryout clinics. NO EXCEPTIONS!!
  • Tryout schedule: See above for Clinic schedule. TRYOUTS: Thursday, April 21st; starting at 4:00. All tryout dates are in the CHS gym and are closed to the public. Team announcements will follow tryouts on Monday evening.
  • Mandatory meeting Wednesday, April 27 at 7pm in the student center for all cheerleaders chosen for the squads and at least one parent. Be prepared to write a check for initial deposits for uniforms (new members: $250/Returners: $150 plus summer camp: $55).
  •  Uniform Fitting is on May 6 after school.
